Peer Counselors: Beyond the Yield

The scope of practice for WIC peer counselors focused on supporting normal breastfeeding, ways to build a strong network of support when issues arise outside their scope, and practical ways to continuing supporting new mothers after they have been “yielded” to other experts.

Peer Counselor Celebration Event

Many WIC State agencies conduct annual celebratory events with peer counselors to recognize  their successes and provide continuing education specific to their role in WIC.

Every Mother provides a wide variety of flexible program options tailored to meet the needs of the agency.

Continuing education topics and schedule are negotiated based on identified needs of the agency/program.

Peer Counselors: Making a Difference for WIC Families

The unique contribution of peer counselors in improving breastfeeding rates and supporting WIC mothers to reach their feeding goals.

Includes research and best practices of peer counseling programs, ways to integrate peer counselors into the WIC clinic flow, and building strong breastfeeding teams.

Length: 1.5 hours

WIC Peer Counselor Management (1 or 2 days)

Designed for WIC Peer Counselor Coordinators, program managers, and supervisors of peer counselors, this is the official USDA Food and Nutrition Service training program for managing peer counseling programs. Includes supervising and retaining peer counselors, practice setting, scope of practice, hiring strategies, and program policies. Can be provided in several ways:

• One-day “train the trainer” for State/local WIC agency trainers 
• Two-day direct training for program managers and supervisors
• Individual curriculum sections can be provided as shorter conference sessions

WIC Peer Counselor Training (1+ days)

Every Mother’s trainers can be available to provide the USDA Food and Nutrition Service WIC peer counseling training platform as either a 1-day “train the trainer” for State/local WIC agency trainers and supervisors, or as a multi-day direct training program of peer counselors.

Every Mother, Inc. will work with the State or local agency to tailor the program to fit the unique needs of the agency.
