Pumping at Work: Oregon Breastfeeding Moms Have Got That Right!
Oregon is leading the way in supporting breastfeeding mothers with a new law
requiring employers with 25 or more employees to provide both time and space to pump breast milk. Not only does the law stipulate that breastfeeding
mothers are to be given adequate time and a private location to pump, it further stipulates that a toilet stall does *not* constitute a private place to pump. There are also some pretty stiff fines for non-compliance $1,000
*per incident*.

The law thus far has been well received by employees and employers alike.
"There is no nutrient as important to an infant as breastmilk This bill
gives nursing mothers more opportunities to provide that nourishment to
their children and that is something we should encourage in as many ways as
possible."Those words were spoken by Oregon House of Representatives House
Speaker Jeff Merkley.

Lucky Oregon--with support like this, it's no wonder they have the highest
breastfeeding rates in the nation! Let's hope this is a precedent-setting
law that spreads far and wide.
